The Aleksander Brückner Center for Polish Studies is supervising the blog this month, during which scholars and students of East European history will focus on Polish-Ukrainian entanglements.

This week, Sven Jaros takes a closer look at the role of the national anthem in the Ukrainian state building process.

The historian argues that the Ukrainian national anthem be read as a double-sided mirror, as, on the one hand, its genesis illustrates the entangled history of Ukraine, while on the other it underlines the strength of Ukrainian national consciousness, especially in the face of Russia's war against Ukraine.

Diese Woche widmet sich Sven Jaros der Rolle der Nationalhymne im ukrainischen Staatsbildungsprozess.

Dem Historiker zufolge sei die ukrainische Nationalhymne als doppelter Spiegel zu lesen, zumal ihre Entstehung einerseits die verflochtene Geschichte des Landes illustriere und zum anderen die Stärke des ukrainischen Nationalgefühls betone, gerade auch im Angesicht des Krieges.
