The war in Ukraine has far-reaching geopolitical, humanitarian and socio-cultural consequences – for Ukraine but also for neighbouring countries, other European states and the European Union. The European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) invites to four round tables which will explore what migration and border studies can contribute to understanding war and its consequences.

The event is organized by the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION in cooperation with the Regional Office of the Southeast Europe Society at Viadrina, the Center for East European and International Studies ZOiS and the University of Bologna and is aimed at the general public. It is a multiplier event of the Erasmus+ funded project "GLocalEast - Developing a new curriculum in Global Migration, Diaspora and Border Studies in East-Central Europe" with a consortium of six partner universities: Comenius University (Bratislava, Slovakia), University of Bologna, University of Belgrade, Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas, Lithuania), University of Zagreb and European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) and also marks the end of the GlocalEast Summer School "Global Migration, Diaspora and Border Studies in East-Central Europe", which will take place from Monday, 5 September 2022, to Friday, 16. September 2022, at European University.

The war in Ukraine has far-reaching geopolitical, humanitarian and socio-cultural consequences - not only for Ukraine itself, but also for neighbouring countries, other European states and the European Union itself. In this public event, we will ask what migration and border studies can contribute to understanding the war and its consequences, and how they should be designed to address the new social challenges, especially with regard to migration processes. The event includes contributions from scholars and civil society activists from Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Serbia, and Ukraine.

The event is a multiplier event of the GlocalEast project and will take place as part of the GLocalEAst Summer School “Global Migration, Diaspora and Border Studies in East-Central Europe” at the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION, European University Viadrina, (September 5–16, 2022). It is addressed to the academic public as well as to interested citizens, and can be followed on site (Logensaal, European University of Viadrina) as well as online. The corresponding link will be sent after registration.

Organized by the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION (Carolin Leutloff-Grandits, Jarosłav Jańczak) in cooperation with the Regional Office of the Southeast Europe Society at Viadrina (Claudia Weber), the Centre for East European and International Studies ZOiS (Sabine von Löwis) and the University of Bologna (Marco Puleri).
