Prof. Bożena Chołuj is a professor of German-Polish cultural and literary relations, gender studies and comparative Central European studies at the European University Viadrina. She is also a professor for literary studies at the Institute for German Languages and Literature at the University of Warsaw. In 1995 she founded with prof. Małgorzata Fuszara the degree of gender studies at the Department for Practical Social Sciences and Resocialization at the University of Warsaw. From 1988-1999 she was academic fellow at the Institute of German Languages and Literature in the field of literary history and theory at the University of Warsaw.

Nineteenth and twentieth century German and Polish literature; gender, subversive activities, power relations at the everyday level and in the literary world; stereotype research in intercultural communication; problems of national and gender identity; literary constructions of the body in German and Polish prose in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; theories of knowledge.
