Karen Underhill on Bruno Schulz

Encounters with Polish Literature: Bruno Schulz

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Karen Underhill (University of Illinois—Chicago) is my guest on this month's episode of "Encounters with Polish Literature" for a discussion of her research on the Polish-Jewish writer and artist, Bruno Schulz, and his Galician Jewish Context. We look particularly at his connections to Yiddish writers, Debora Vogel, Rokhl Korn, Rokhl Auerbach, and his essay on fellow Drohobycz artist and illustrator, E.M. Lilien, and we consider concepts like "diaspora" as they intersect with Schulz's writing and his theory of language and poetry.
